Team Liquid, Onic retain core as MPL PH Season 16 looms
Team Liquid Philippines and Onic Philippines, two of the league's powerhouse squads, are sticking to what works as both teams have decided to keep their core intact for their looming campaign in the MPL Philippines Season 16. For its title defense, Team Liquid will once again lean on Karl "KarlTzy" Nepomuceno as the Cavalry aims to build on the momentum from winning it all at the MSC 2025. The multi-titled jungler will link up with gold laner Kiel "Oheb" Soriano, exp laner Sanford "Sanford" Vinuya, mid laner Alston "Sanji" Pabico, and veteran roamer Jaypee "Jaypee" Dela Cruz with head coach Rodel "Ar Sy" Cruz still calling the shots. Boasting a strong lineup, Team Liquid is on course to achieve the coveted 'Golden Road,' claiming every major Mobile Legends: Bang Bang title within a year. But Team Liquid isn't focused on that for now. "For me, 'yung sa Golden Road hindi namin finofocus-an kasi gaya ng nakasanayan namin sa Season 15, step by step lang kami every single game," Ar Sy said during the media day last week in Quezon City. "This coming MPL Season 16, same set-up pa rin kami. Mas gagalingan lang din namin and 'yung mga training namin gano'n pa rin, walang magbabago." Meanwhile, Onic is also featuring familiar faces when it begins its redemption tour. The reigning world champions will still be bannered by gold laner Duane "Kelra" Pillas, jungler Cyric "K1NGKONG" Prez, mid laner Frince "Super Frince" Ramirez, roamer Borris "Brusko" Parro, and exp laner Jann Kirk "Kirk" Guttierez. Onic, though, will welcome Nowee "Ryota" Macasa as one of its sixth men together with Jaylord "Hate" Gonzales. Onic will look to reclaim the MPL title after losing to Team Liquid in their grueling finals series back in Season 15. —JKC, GMA Integrated News

Based on the Esports World Cup website, Team Liquid is bagging US $1 million prize pool after claiming the championship that saw the Cavalry sweep the contest, winning all five games that included a convincing 4-1 victory over defending champion of Malaysia in the grand finals. The milestone cemented Team Liquid's legacy as the first MLBB squad to capture all major titles—MPL, MSC, and the M-Series World Championship — thanks to the quintet of jungler Karl "KarlTzy" Nepomuceno, gold laner Kiel "Oheb" Soriano, roamer Jaypee "Jaypee" Dela Cruz, exp laner Sanford "Sanford" Vinuya, and mid laner Alston "Sanji" Pabico. KarlTzy has also legitimized his status as the MLBB Greatest of All Time (GOAT), having won two world championships, four MPL titles, and now, an MSC crown. He has also won a SEA Games gold medal in 2019. Onic, the reigning world champion, took home US $250,000 after finishing third in the 16-team field. Team Liquid sends Onic Indonesia home to punch MSC Grand Finals ticket
Team Liquid continued its dream run in the 2025 Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Mid-Season Cup, booting Onic Indonesia with a 3-1 win in their heavyweight semifinals showdown on Friday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Philippine bets now head to the finale showdown against no less than reigning MSC champions Selangor Red Giants (SRG) of Malaysia in a best-of-seven duel on Saturday at 7 p.m. (Manila time). It was a collective effort for the Filipinos with jungler Karl "KarlTzy" Nepomuceno (Hayabusa) and gold laner Kiel "Oheb" Soriano (Harith) both unleashing unblemished KDAs to lead the Game 1 romp. Onic kept Game 2 tight with mid laner SANZ making the most out of his Yve pick, sniping Oheb (Granger) and Jaypee "Jaypee" Dela Cruz (Hylos) during the crucial 25th-minute clash that also resulted in two more Team Liquid casualties. But even with only mid laner Alston "Sanji" Pabico left alive, Team Liquid pulled off a gutsy tower lock with the help of the Lord to secure a 2-0 series advantage for the Cavalry. Onic, though, would turn things around in Game 3 after a surprise Estes pick for Kiboy as the Indonesian champions remained alive. Sanji then took over late in Game 4 after his masterful plays on Zhuxin that led to a pivotal five-man wipeout for Onic Indonesia, steering the Philippines to yet another finals stint. "Of course, the number one is the love for the game and having fun, that's the more important thing to me right now. I'm having fun in playing, that's what keeps me motivated," KarlTzy, who has yet to capture an MSC title despite an accomplished professional career, said. "For me, I don't have anything with SRG but I wanna beat coach Arcadia." Team Liquid will now look to dethrone SRG, which earlier eliminated another Philippine representative in Onic Philippines with a nail-biting 3-2 victory. —JKC, GMA Integrated News
